At just under 18, Kyra Aziz represented India as one of two youth delegates at the United Nations ECOSOC Youth Forum 2026—an experience that not only amplified her voice on the global stage, but also deepened the vision behind her initiative, Pragati Ki Udan.

Founded by Kyra, Pragati Ki Udan is a growing global platform that bridges the urban-rural divide by bringing together diverse communities to co-create a more inclusive and barrier-free future. The initiative is grounded in the belief that progress must be participatory—designed with, not just for, the people it seeks to serve.

At the ECOSOC Youth Forum, Kyra engaged with policymakers, youth leaders, and international organizations to explore some of today’s most pressing global challenges, including poverty alleviation, climate action, and equitable access to opportunities. A key area of focus was the urgent need for more coordinated, consensus-driven approaches among governments to support populations living below the poverty line.

Inspired by dialogues aligned with UNESCO’s core values—particularly around inclusive education, intercultural exchange, and collaborative innovation—Kyra strengthened her commitment to fostering intergenerational and cross-cultural conversations through Pragati Ki Udan. The forum provided her with new frameworks, insights, and partnerships that continue to shape the platform’s evolution.

At the forum, Kyra also actively contributed to two high-level thematic sessions: “Youth Perspectives on Regional Development – Challenges, Priorities and Actions for the SDGs” and “Youth Leadership, a Critical Force in Shaping a Sustainable and Inclusive Future for All.” These dialogues reinforced her belief that regional disparities and systemic inequalities must be addressed through localized, youth-driven solutions that are globally informed.

In the session on regional development, Kyra engaged in discussions highlighting the importance of context-specific strategies—recognizing that sustainable progress requires aligning global SDG frameworks with the lived realities of communities, particularly those in underserved and rural areas. This directly resonates with the mission of Pragati Ki Udan, which seeks to bridge these gaps by enabling grassroots voices to shape development pathways.

Meanwhile, the dialogue on youth leadership underscored the transformative role young people play not only as participants but as co-creators of sustainable futures. It further validated Kyra’s approach of fostering intergenerational collaboration and empowering youth as active agents of change. These experiences deepened her commitment to building platforms that amplify youth perspectives while translating ideas into tangible, community-led action.

Drawing on the global ecosystem of institutions like the Learning Planet Institute, Kyra is now integrating more structured, solution-oriented dialogues into her work. These efforts aim to move beyond discussion toward actionable, community-driven strategies that address systemic challenges such as social inequality and access to sustainable livelihoods.

Her experience at ECOSOC reaffirmed a powerful idea: when young people are given a seat at the table, they do not just participate—they help redesign the table itself.

As Pragati Ki Udan continues to grow, it stands as a testament to what youth-led, globally connected initiatives can achieve when rooted in empathy, collaboration, and a shared vision for progress.
